By Gustave Doré. Doré is mostly remembered for his engravings, so this oil painting catches people off guard. He made it in 1865, the Matterhorn is somewhere in the distance, and the scale of it feels less like a landscape and more like a warning. It lives in the Art Institute of Chicago.
